The Kinks - Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society(UK 1968)

Roddus Album Of The Day

Not really too familiar with much of The Kinks music apart from the obvious hits played on classic radio. Not much here reminiscent of the mighty "You Really Got Me" and also I think this album is a bit overrated as such.
Still this is a quality 60s pop/rock/psychedelic album and does have its own uniqueness to it. Plenty of stuff here sounds familiar to me not because I know this album well but because it is actually a very influential disc and I have heard bits of it in more recent music from other musicians, for example the lovely and very cool riff on "Picture Book" I think was use on a Green Day track not all that long ago. Like all top quality pop/rock records there is plenty of variety on this record and It sounds to me like Ray was more sourced by The Who, more than The Beatles. This is growing on me as I get familiar with it but I don't believe it would make my top twenty 60s album list so I will award it 3.5/5.

Nouvelle Vague - Bande a Part (France 2006)

Roddus Abum Of The Day

Well, it seems life has just got a bit too busy lately to leave me any time to work on my blog and my lifetime project to write a short review for all the albums I have in my collection. What with work, the spring prep of the vege garden, helping run a seminar here and large earthquakes as well to distract me, this album has been sitting on my ipod for nearly 3 weeks, although I have been listening to plenty of other things in that time.
A covers album of mostly familiar to me material from the 80s done in a sort of poppy electronic lounge music way, with sugar sweet female vocals that start to grate on me after a while and really not the best versions of any of these songs I have heard. A pretty average set for me and only worthy of 2/5 on the Roddusometer.
