The Sun Ra Discography
Recorded in New York in 1961 this is a much more conventional sounding set like the previous "Holiday For Soul Dance" but is much looser sounding than that album. Recorded during rehearsals at the Choreographer’s Workshop which might explain the loose sound. On the surface it all sounds a little messy but closer inspection reveals some wonderful solos, especially on "Searchlight Blues" Which could make it onto a Best of Sun Ra compilation."Exotic Two" has a great rhythm before getting all percussive and is more unconventional sounding. There are some good tunes on this set and if it had been played a lot tighter it would have been a real treat of an album, but it is still pretty good and I'll Rate it 3.5/5.
