Sun Ra - Nidhamu & Dark Myth Equation Visitation (USA 1971 and 73) Art Yard 2009

The Sun Ra Discography.

Two albums on one CD and another one from the Artyard Box set I obtained recently. A lot of extended noodlings on various keyboard type instruments, very electronic and quite far away from Jazz and very experimental for these live recordings and radio broadcast in Egypt in the early 70's. Pre dating Throbbing Gristle's industrial sounds by several years, I wonder if Genesis P Orridge was listening to this? Most of the music here is dominated by Ra's experimentations with his synth and other keyboards with occasional input from the rest of the group on some tracks, with some pretty free sounding chaos from the Arkestra. The keyboard sounds are quite far out and not what a lot of people would call music, but I like it and there are plenty of interesting effects and improvisations. The last part of what was the original "Dark Myth Equation Visitation" are some group jams with chants. Another good example of the range of Sun Ra's musical world. Rating 3.5/5.
